This publication: 'Holtzapffel Volume VI' a compendium of rare or previously unpublished material related to Ornamental Turning  - which presents to the reader an unique opportunity to access this extensive library of knowledge hitherto not generally available.

I now have only a very few copies remaining and these are priced at £50 plus p&p.  I do not plan to have more printed

The Printed Hardback Edition     (published in 2013 -  ISBN 978-0-9576594-0-7)      is now available for sale at £50.00 plus postage.  This is a large book (12" x 8.5" x 2" thick) with 866 printed pages on good quality paper The cost of postage for such a large volume is high.  I can only say that I believe this will become a 'must have' book for ornamental turners and I hope you will think it worthwhile to support this project and buy a copy.

The Second (Compact Disc) Edition    (published in 2013 -  ISBN 978-0-9576594-1-4)      is still available for sale at £35.00 plus postage.  The CD can be useful if you want to print off a few pages for reference in the workshop without the risk of soiling the book!

Orders are invited by email to ornamental.turning[at]talktalk.net - using the symbol @ in place of [at].  Please supply your Postal Address.  Do not make payment until you have received details of the payment methods available to you and confirmation of the current cost of packing and postage to your address.

HISTORY OF THIS PUBLICATION

The First (Compact Disc) Edition, published in 2012.

Many of the source documents reproduced in this book were time-damaged originals or low quality photo-copies.  With the First (CD) Edition it was possible to read them by enlarging the pages on the computer screen.  Also, this mammoth work of 900 pages contained many errors despite having been selectively proof-read by three people.  This First Edition has therefore been discontinued.

The Second (Printed) Edition published in Hardback in 2013.        ISBN 978-0-9576594-0-7

Due to popular demand a printed edition has been produced.   One disadvantage of this medium is that it cannot be enlarged in order to read poor quality text; so most text from the CD edition had to be re-scanned, OCR (optical character reading) employed or text completely re-typed in order to make it legible on the printed page.  There were some words that were completely illegible and deciphering some numbers, particularly fractions, was very challenging; so the reader is warned  to treat these with a degree of scepticism.  However, on the positive side, the revision process has allowed some errors to be corrected, some incomplete items in the First Edition to be completed and some new information to be added.  The principal additions are listed under their Chapter headings below.

It is convenient in a printed book to start every Chapter on a right hand page; but this leaves blank pages.  Also a compilation of this type suffers from the fact that many items do not fill their new pages completely.  To minimize this waste of space the Compiler has attempted to add value by inserting interesting items of information, historic advertisements and pictures of ornamentally turned items which he hopes will stimulate the reader's interest at no extra cost.

The Second (Compact Disc) Edition    ( published in 2013 -  ISBN 978-0-9576594-1-4)      contains identical material to the Printed Edition, with the facility to print copies of selected pages for reference in the workshop.
